What Is Great Music?
April 27, 2018
With degrees in Psychology and Dance from Cornell University, the accomplished Jon Wong is one of the few talented artists whom I would consider to be a true singer-songwriter in Hong Kong. Jon has a gift for instruments. He plays the piano, guitar, violin, and even more. On top his of talent, Jon is also a driven, hardworking, genuinely multi-faceted artist. He caught my eye when I saw him on the popular mainland Chinese programme Sing My Song (中國好歌曲). His song “For the First Time” (碰不上會更美) got great reviews and officially put him on the mainland Chinese music map.
I met Jon back in 2009 at a CASH TVB event. My song “Hope” made it to the top 10 in the songwriting contest (organised by Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong CASH) and eventually I became second runner up. Jon was singing another song composed from another songwriter which eventually won the competition.
Jon is the kind of person who stays down to earth and has the conviction and commitment needed to make it in show business. He is extremely humble with a positive attitude towards life and is full of gratitude. Jon is a wholesome person and a great role model . With Jon, what you see is what you get, and what you get is a talented and devoted artist.
In this interview, Jon and I discuss his music career, his path to Sing My Song, the pillars in life, and what inspires him as a musician.
